Overview
This document defines the complete headset communication system for the live video director. It provides exact phrasing, timing strategy, and cue logic for seamlessly switching between camera operators during live services. This protocol is designed to eliminate confusion, ensure shot discipline, and unify all roles through a single language system. When trained properly, the system becomes second nature — creating fluid, dynamic broadcasts every Sunday.
All headset callouts, OBS/ATEM labels, and camera references must use the following names:
Do NOT refer to cameras by ATEM defaults (“Cam 5”), operator names, or numbers (e.g., “Cam 1”). This single naming convention enables:
Prep Cue (warn the next camera)
“Left Cam, standby — you’re next in 5.”
Action Cue (assign framing + countdown)
“Left Cam, choir wide — live in 3.”
Confirmation Cue (once switched)
“You’re live — hold for 6.”
(Or: “You’re live — push in slowly.”)
Next Camera Is Cued (you begin cueing the upcoming shot)
“Back Cam, wide altar — live in 3.”
Transition Confirmation (confirm next shot is now live)
“You’re live — hold for 6.”
(At this point, the previous camera can reset to default.)
